Scheana Shay Opens Up About Husband’s Infidelity in New Memoir
Scheana Shay, known for sharing the ups and downs of her life with the public, recently released her memoir, “My Good Side.” While the Vanderpump Rules star has always been candid, she initially hesitated to delve into the painful experience of discovering her husband, Brock Davies, had been unfaithful while she was pregnant with their daughter, Summer Moon, now four years old.
According to Scheana, it was Brock who encouraged her to fully disclose the truth in her book. She initially considered glossing over the difficult period, but Brock insisted she tell the whole story.
“I read the first draft out loud to him, and he was like, ‘Absolutely not. That is not going in the book,’” Scheana revealed. “And I was like, ‘Wait, what?’ And he goes, ‘If you’re gonna put it in the book, tell the whole story.’”
Brock even opted to wait until just weeks before the book’s publication to read the chapter detailing his infidelity. He wanted Scheana to tell the story from her perspective without his influence.
“I offered for him to read it before the final draft was due,” Scheana explained, “and he said, ‘No, it is your story. I don’t want to have any input on feeling one sort of way. You tell it however you want to, and I will have to deal with that.’”
Brock’s initial reaction after reading the chapter was that it was a “tough read.” Scheana shared that he has been apologetic ever since, realizing the full impact of his actions on her.
“He’s just been so apologetic since he read it—even more because he didn’t realize the magnitude of it,” she said. “It’s been a couple years now, we’ve worked through this. We’ve been in couples therapy, but he just didn’t realize how much it affected me because I do kind of skirt over things and sweep them under the rug, and it was just like, ‘We’re not going to talk about this right now.’”
Navigating Infidelity Amidst Scandoval
The timing of Brock’s confession in the spring of 2023 coincided with the height of “Scandoval,” the controversy surrounding Tom Sandoval’s affair with Rachel “Raquel” Leviss. Scheana felt it was crucial to address their marital issues privately, away from the cameras. She and Brock, who married in 2021, worked on their relationship before filming for season 11 of Vanderpump Rules began.
“I don’t think our marriage would have survived if that was our story season 11,” Scheana admitted. “I needed more time. The thing with reality TV is, yes, we sign up to put our entire life out there—that’s on my timeline. I don’t have to put it out there just because we just started filming. I need some more time to process this because that’s my reality.”
Scheana was also concerned about how viewers would perceive her revealing Brock’s infidelity so soon after Scandoval. She anticipated accusations of trying to capitalize on the situation or emulate Ariana Madix’s experience.
“I already knew how it would go,” Scheana said. “The audience would say I’m trying to make Scandoval about me. I’m trying to be Ariana. I’m trying to get on Dancing with the Stars. I’m trying all of these things—and I’m not doing that.”
Ultimately, Scheana felt that season 12 would have been a more appropriate time to share the news, although that season will feature a new cast of SURvers. The couple chose to inform their loved ones about the infidelity on their own terms, after Scheana had processed the situation and chosen to forgive Brock.
“I had processed it, I had forgiven him, I had chosen to stay so I think it made it easier for them,” she explained.
Choosing Forgiveness and Fighting for Family
While the conversations with loved ones were difficult, Scheana said they were generally supportive.
“But overall, everyone’s just been extremely supportive,” Scheana said, “because Brock has proven himself to everyone in the last few years of what an amazing partner he is to me, what an amazing father he is to Summer Moon and what an amazing person he is with all of their kids.”
Divorce was considered, but Scheana ultimately decided to stay and work through the issues, largely for the sake of their daughter, Summer Moon.
“I am glad that she gave me a reason to fight because although our marriage isn’t perfect, I think Brock is the perfect person for me,” she stressed. “He challenges me in ways I’ve never been challenged before, which is so frustrating at times, but it’s because he knows what I’m capable of and this life that we’ve built together.”
Scheana believes that learning about the infidelity years later allowed her to better understand the circumstances that led to Brock’s actions. Brock has two children from a previous relationship in Australia.
“I had to calm down and really look at our life and look at why he made that mistake, why he felt like he didn’t deserve a second chance at a family,” the Scheananigans podcast host explained. “And my heart kind of broke for him and for us together, because it was just so sad that he felt like he wasn’t good enough because of his past and that he didn’t deserve us.”
Scheana Shay’s memoir, My Good Side, is available now. It promises to reveal even more about her life and relationships.
