In today’s smartphone landscape, artificial intelligence (AI) has become an integral part of the user experience. While many manufacturers incorporate AI features into their devices, Samsung appears to be taking the lead with its comprehensive and sophisticated AI suite. When you invest in a flagship Samsung Galaxy device, you gain access to a unique combination of exclusive Galaxy AI functionalities, optimized support for multimodal Gemini, and a wide array of Google’s AI innovations. This gives Samsung users a distinct advantage compared to those using other top-tier Android smartphones.
Following the introduction of impressive AI tools in One UI 7 for the Samsung Galaxy S25 series, One UI 8 is now bringing similar enhancements to the latest Samsung foldable devices. After spending considerable time exploring the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 7, I’ve identified five AI features that I found genuinely useful and compelling. Whether they are new additions or existing capabilities, understanding these features is crucial if you’re considering purchasing a new Galaxy Z Flip 7 or Galaxy Z Fold 7. The great news is that many of these features are also available across the broader Samsung Galaxy phone lineup.
Previously, flip phones offered limited support for multimodal Gemini Live. Features like screen sharing and live video streaming were either unavailable or poorly implemented. While some Motorola Razr phones offered live video streaming, the experience was often clunky and unintuitive, with hidden controls and less-than-ideal optimization for the cover screen.
However, the Galaxy Z Flip 7 introduces a fully optimized version of Gemini Live designed specifically for the cover screen. While screen sharing is not practical due to the 4.1-inch display size, live video sharing works seamlessly. After extensive testing of multimodal Gemini Live on various Android phones, this implementation stands out as a favorite.
The compact form factor of the flip phone makes it comfortable to hold while using Gemini Live. It’s easy to extend your arm to show the camera what you’re looking at, flip the phone to display yourself, or listen to responses. The Galaxy Z Flip 7 can also be propped up in tent mode for hands-free operation. The versatility of using Gemini Live on a flip phone surpasses the experience on heavier, less manageable slab phones. Among flip phones, the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 7’s optimization of Gemini is unmatched.
AI Select is a potentially game-changing Galaxy AI feature that often goes unnoticed. Accessible via the Edge Panel (swipe from the top-third of the screen), AI Select is typically the first option. It allows you to select virtually anything on your screen using AI, providing quick access to context-based actions.
For example, you can tap an image to download it without manually cropping, or use AI Select to automatically add event details from a flyer to your calendar. Other options include selecting text, creating GIFs, translating languages, and generating new content using Generative edit and Drawing assist.
Tasks that are typically cumbersome on a standard smartphone, such as creating a GIF from any video, become effortless. It’s akin to Circle to Search, but instead of searching the web, you can tap into the full potential of Galaxy AI features directly on your device.
While many phones offer generative editing and object removal tools, Samsung’s Object Eraser consistently delivers impressive results. While competitors like Apple’s Clean Up and Google’s Magic Editor offer similar functionality, Object Eraser stands out for its ability to seamlessly remove objects and intelligently fill in the gaps using generative AI.
To put Object Eraser to the test on the Galaxy Z Flip 7, I took a photo of myself holding a Galaxy Watch 8 and attempted to remove the watch. This presented a challenging scenario, as the tool needed to fill in the gaps in my hand and recreate the complex patterns of the textured carpet in the background.
While there is a slight reduction in sharpness and texture in the areas where Object Eraser used generative fill, it’s barely noticeable at first glance. This example demonstrates the tool’s capability to effectively remove unwanted elements from photos, making it a valuable asset for Galaxy phone users.
Using Object Eraser is simple: open a photo in the Samsung Gallery app, tap the Galaxy AI button, and select or circle the object you want to remove.
The foldable form factor of the Galaxy Z Flip 7 offers unique advantages in addressing certain challenges, including language barriers. With the Interpreter feature, you can use AI to facilitate real-time conversations with individuals who speak different languages. This feature leverages both screens, allowing both parties to see and hear translations of each other’s speech when the phone is placed on a table.
While Interpreter is not exclusive to the Galaxy Z Flip 7, the larger Flex Window cover screen enhances the user experience during face-to-face conversations. This is definitely a Galaxy AI feature that’s worth exploring. In addition to the cover screen, Interpreter can also be accessed directly from the call UI for use during phone calls and through the Edge Panel.
One AI feature that I find indispensable is Call Assist. I rely on it (or similar versions) on every device I test to screen calls and avoid wasting time with robocalls and scammers. Directly from the Call UI, you can activate Call Assist and use features like Live Translate or my preferred option: text call.
Text call uses Galaxy AI to convert the caller’s speech into text, allowing you to respond via text. This is incredibly useful when you’re unsure whether to answer a call but don’t want to miss important information.
I consistently use Call Assist when expecting important calls from businesses or unknown numbers, while simultaneously wanting to avoid potential spam calls. It has already proven invaluable while using the Galaxy Z Flip 7 as my primary device.
These are just a few of the Galaxy AI features that I find myself frequently using on the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 7. The good news is that these features are also available on many other Galaxy devices. Samsung also provides users with the option to process their data locally when using Galaxy AI features, ensuring greater privacy and control.
While Gemini offers impressive AI capabilities, Samsung Galaxy phones, particularly the Galaxy Z Flip 7, elevate the experience with exclusive Galaxy AI features. While many of Google’s AI features are cross-platform, Samsung offers a unique and compelling AI-driven experience. Whether mobile AI is a priority for you, there’s a strong case to be made for choosing a Samsung Galaxy phone over its competitors.
The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 7 offers the best of both worlds, combining exclusive Galaxy AI features with optimized support for Google’s best AI innovations, such as Gemini Live.
